Sterling silver ring with Kuaka (bar-tailed godwit) detail. The kuaka is a migratory bird, travelling 11,000km non-stop across the pacific ocean from Siberia to summer on our shores. The kuaka has a special place in Māori culture; it is said that they would accompany the spirits of the departed on their journey from Te Rerenga Wairua (the leaping place of spirits) on their journey to Hawaiki (our ancestral and spiritual homeland).
