Sterling silver kōuma (breastplate) embellished with kiri kiore (rat skin) patterns and ringaringa/waewae details to represent the kiore (polynesian rat). Significant, to Iwi hailing from Te Tai Tokerau, the kiore was an important food source in pre-european times as well as having the characteristics of agility and being a strong survivor. Pekepeke-kiore is the name given to our endemic lion’s mane fungus species which is edible and has medicinal properties.
